■RealRead Partners with Wiley

New York, NY, November 26th, 2001 -- Yoshi Kitamura, CEO of RealRead Inc., today announced a partnership with John Wiley & Sons, Inc., (NYSE:JWa) (NYSE:JWb), to display sample material online for Wiley Higher Education learning materials, a capability which will promote sales.

RealRead Inc., founded in 2000 by Mr. Kitamura, is a global Web-based sampling service with U.S. headquarters in New York City that employs its own proprietary software. "We are delighted that Wiley has chosen our service", says Kitamura, "as it represents the ultimate solution for 'looking inside the book', since it allows customers to see art, tables of contents, graphics, and text in a unique page-turning, high resolution format -- without requiring plug-ins or a time-consuming download of special software or files. Viewers like the quickness and ease of use--even on a 56K modem. Publishers like the fact that RealRead protects content from being copied while also providing them with quantifiable viewer data that allows immediate feedback on numbers of viewers, viewing times and other relevant data." Kitamura feels that RealRead will become the standard for viewing books online, since most books are now stored in quark or pdf files, and "we can convert any book in a digital file to RealRead sampling at the touch of a button". Wiley joins a number of other U.S. publishers, including Random House, Penguin-Putnam, Scholastic, AOL-Time-Warner, and Harvard Business School Press who are currently using the service. Samples of books in the RealRead format and other information about the company can be viewed at www.realread.com.

Wiley believes that enabling customers to access sample chapters online will allow them to better leverage the Internet as a sales and marketing tool. The sample chapters cover a wide range of highly successful titles, such as Microbiology: Principles and Explorations, 5e by Black, Managerial Accounting: Tools for Business Decision Making, 2e by Weygandt, Kimmel, Kieso, and Geology Today: Understanding our Planet, 2e by Murck and Skinner. RealRead is hosting and maintaining the service, but customers access the samplings through each title's Web pages located on wiley.com/college.

"RealRead's proprietary technology is transforming the way Wiley markets its Higher Education learning materials. Students and professors can now view our online materials with the ease of html and the appearance of pdf," said Steve Kraham, VP of Marketing for Wiley's Higher Education Division. "Another unique benefit to working with RealRead is that they are giving us usage statistics that are helpful in our sales process."
